Pretty Canopies
A Design Competition, 2014

First of all: Light canopies are lamp parts used to cover ceiling boxes. While working at the Swiss design shop Einzigart I noticed how many people asked about light canopies when buying textile cable to build their own lamps. When you build your own you don't have the advantage of a fully designed lamp that comes with every part. And it's only when you build your own that you realize how important light canopies, these strange parts, are. And when you start looking for them you quickly learn that pretty canopies are awfully rare. So I suggested we launch a design competition and ask students of the local design and art schools to participate. A few months later, the lamp section of the design shop was filled with pretty canopies.
