Little Spirits
Ceramics, 2023

These gentle objects are a collaboration with Zürich-based, Viennese ceramicist Barbara Postiasi. Oyster shells, images and words were the starting point of our conversation and the results are ornate, useful, and quietly beautiful. Barbara Postiasi specializes in Raku-firing, an ancient Japanese ceramics technique. She made a total of 26 "Little Spirits" which are evenly distributed on either side of the Atlantic. If you are ordering from within Europe, you may reach out directly to Barbara Postiasi at ankertipi(at)gmail.com.

The images were created in collaboration with Dr. Lauren Taylor Hudson, a geography professor, writer, and organizer. In the summer of 2023, we journeyed through Italian New York and made these images at Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, Queens, where my Sicilian great-grandparents lay resting.

In terms of size it is safe to say that all Little Spirits fit comfortably into a grownup's palm, more or less.
